Tips for tackling a career fair by Lucy Liu


   It is a good idea to attend to career fairs if you are willing to know what you can do in your field or looking for an internship. There are plenty of opportunities out there for you to gather informations and to find a job that you are interested in. So here are some tips that might help you to get well prepared for a career fair.
   First of all, it’s important to know your audience. Before go to the fair, you should have an idea in your mind of the things that your are looking for. At that point, be sure to do some research about the companies that will attend to the fair and narrow down the choices so you could get straight to the point when you get to the event.
   Second, no clumping. Taking a big group of friends with you might not be a good idea for a career fair, because there would be a lot of people out there and everybody is willing to talk with the consulars for the companies. If there are friends just standing on your side and wait for you, it would make you conversation become uncomfortable. However, bringing a wingman with you to a career fair is a really good idea. If you have a friend that have same major or interested with you, go to fair together will works good. You guys can visit different companies spot and share the information you got, and also could help each other make decisions by speaking out your own thoughts.
   Third, be prepared to give out resumes and take notes. If your find a good job opportunity that you want to know more about, it’s important to give them your resume in order to let them know more about you and understand that you are really interested in the work they offered. so take at least 20 resumes with you in a career fair. Also, you would be able to meet many different companies in a short period of time, taking notes will help you keep track on what is going on and after the events you could still remember the conversations by the notes you toke.
   Finally, dress to impress and focus on the details. You don’t have to dress up like anything fancy, just be business casual, that will show that you are take this fair seriously and well- prepared. At the same time, be sure to smile, practice good hand shakes, make eye contacts to person you are taking to, and lastly thank them at the end of your conversations.These details would show not only your attitude but also your personalities to the companies that in the career fair.
