Just as it is important to be able to estimate properly in
the engineering profession, it is also important to be able to perform proper
calculations. One very important aspect of this is to understand how to do
dimensional analysis. This concept is usually first introduced in high school
at some point and comes in handy when performing large calculations both in
engineering and in many other classes, especially science classes. With
dimensional analysis, it is important to have a good understanding of the units
you are dealing with. Being able to convert between different metric units is
important in engineering as you will be dealing with measurements that need to
be related and converted. It is also necessary to have a good understanding of
different physics terms, such as acceleration, torque, efficiency, power, etc.
As an engineer, physics, and high-level math are things that are dealt with
almost on a daily basis so proficiency in these subjects is key to being
successful in your career.
