Many disagree that the undecided route is a good one to take in college. In an article in Forbes, Lisa Uebel stated "..Offering an undecided major facilitates people entering college before they know what they want out of their college education. This is an irresponsible and unethical offering". The way she sees it is that if you do not know what you want to do immediately you should not be in college. Based on my research of college majors and being undecided, this is not factual at all. In some cases, yes it is true that you might have to do an extra year or two if you are undecided, but this also goes for those who constantly change their majors which is more than half of all college students. Having a major does not mean you are not driven or that you do not have a career already set in mind. Being undecided is self explanatory, you are undecided. Nobody is going to make the decision but you; so let it be your own experience and integrity push you toward whichever field you choose to go in.
Being undecided is honestly the best route to take if you are not positive of your career. This gives you time to grow as a student and become accustom to college life. Along with this, it gives you the opportunity to clear all those general education classes out the way so when you are completely ready to go into your major, you will only have to focus on your field. Undecided majors are also more likely to stay in their majors once they do decide what they want to major in. The choice comes down to you. Rather you choose to be undecided or go into the field you’ve been desiring your whole life, make sure the choice ultimately is all your own decision and no one else's.
