How Does Horticulture Impact Our Life? by Lucy Liu

Horticulture is present in many fields in our life. It plays an important role in agriculture and plant science. However ,what are the benefits that horticulture actually brings to human?
Firstly, growing plants in workplaces and school has a lot of advantages. The view of the nature can help people reduce stress, lower blood pressure, release muscle tension and increase positive feelings. Working in the environment that full of plants could improve workers’ productivity and makes them have greater job satisfaction.
Secondly, there are many modern medicines that are derived from plants. For example, foxglove is a kind of plants which could remedy congestive heart failure, and aloe, as we all know, have a purpose of diminish inflammation and heal the small wounds.

Lastly, the use of horticulture could reduce crime in some respects. That might be sound a little inconceivable, but in fact study shows, more trees and grass around apartment buildings do causes fewer property and violent crimes. Not only because the enjoyable feeling that plants brings us could make people become more placid and have less impulsion to do crime, but the view of gardens around buildings which have been taking good care could show the burglars that there are some permanent residents in the houses so they are less likely to get in and steal.

  2. I didn't know much about horticulture before, I just have the strong interest in plants and I think I should study more and see if that will work for me. Because it will be really great if I could have some job that I enjoy doing everyday in the future.
